The Constitution of Man

Esoteric astrology is a tool to help you to know your soul, and to look upon life from the viewpoint of the soul. It is therefore important to understand the nature of soul, and also the nature of the outer self. Also it is important to distinguish between the two, your true inner self and the outer equipment.

Your true self is essentially spirit. But there are few of us who have a true connection with their spirit, forget about this for a moment and consider your soul as the goal of your aspiration. The soul is your inner self, and when you have established a strong connection with the soul you can go further to connect to an even deeper identity, the spirit.

Man can be said to consist of two basic parts: soul and personality. The soul is your inner or real self, and the personality is the tool you need in order to express yourself in the world. The personality consists of three parts: the physical body, the emotional body (also called astral body), and the mental body. When these three are in harmony with the soul they can be used to express your thoughts and feelings in a constructive way, and also help us to become a practical person who can function on the physical plane.

If, however, the thoughts and feelings are not in harmony with the soul, there will
emerge an attitude of separatism (that is the real cause of selfishness) that will
only result in disaster. The three bodies, mental-body, emotional-body, and physical
body are tools. They are good servants but bad masters. The constitution of man can
be described in the figure below:

Your task in life is to establish a contact with the soul, your true self.
The three lower bodies or vehicles are to be used properly. You have to learn
to control them and use them as tools, not to let them rule your life.
